The Problem

What problem does Bite Lite aim to solve?

Over 6,000,000 submucosal injections are performed in the United States each week. There is about a 20% chance that dentists fail when they are performing dental injections such as these. If failure occurs, dentists have to reinject the patient or there are numerous problems that can arise from a failed injection, ranging from a face deforming hematoma all the way to cardiac arrest or death. Over 50% of medical emergencies that occur in dental offices occur during or immediately following the administration of a local anesthetic. Many of the negative effects that occur as a result of dental injections are due to a lack of visibility within the mouth.

What are current solutions to this problem?

Currently, dentists only use overhead lighting that results in lots of shadowing which causes difficulty seeing. In addition, dentists have reported that it takes them years to be able to know the location of each vein in order to be comfortable enough to guarantee they will not knick veins. To solve this problem we have created an attachment for dental syringes that provides you the opportunity to see within the mouth while also highlighting veins when performing injections.

How our product can help

Our device is a very small and lightweight attachment about the size of your pinky finger that can be attached to the tip of a dental syringe via a push fit connection with a rubber ring. Since it is so small, it does not affect the moment of the syringe to a large degree. With the use of our 5 polarized white LEDs, 5 green LEDs, and our convenient easy to use switch, dentists will be able to see everything in the mouth and even visualize veins to make sure that numbing injections are not placed directly into the bloodstream. We hope that Bite Lite will be able to improve patient and clinician satisfaction by decreasing risk of failure and increasing ease when performing these injections on a daily basis.
